Blackmagic Design Micro Studio Camera 4K G2
The ultra-compact Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K G2 is designed for live productions and has the same image sensor as in Blackmagic's Studio Camera 4K Plus G2, which supports 3840 x 2160p60. The camera is equipped with an active MFT mount that can accept native MFT lenses or be adapted to a wide range of other modern and vintage lenses via a lens adapter. The camera outputs 10-bit 4:2:2 video over 12G-SDI and can be controlled remotely from an ATEM switcher via the SDI control protocol. The camera packs many professional studio features into a compact form factor, including a built-in color corrector, program return, talkback and tally indicator.
Compact size for live productions
Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K G2 is the perfect solution for placing cameras on set when you don't have room for full-size cameras. The camera features the popular MFT lens mount, a 4K image sensor with very low light and cinematic color science. So it is small, but has the functions of a full-fledged studio camera! You also get 12G-SDI for HD and UHD 4K up to 2160p60. It is also possible to control the built-in color corrector and lens via the SDI and HDMI connections. You can even record Blackmagic RAW to USB discs. Plus, Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K G2 goes far beyond broadcast quality with log gamma, allowing you to make cinematic color corrections, all in camera.
Designed for live production
The Micro Studio Camera's small size makes it virtually invisible, so you can place it virtually anywhere on set. You can use more camera angles than ever in your live production to create a more interesting program. With its professional connections, it is perfect for any type of work, such as television productions, news broadcasts, sports, education, conference centers and churches. Now it's easy to hide many cameras on stage for the most incredible shots. Although the Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera is designed for live production, it can also be used for recording as it can record Blackmagic RAW to USB discs for later editing and color correction.
Low-light performance
The Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera has a gain of -12dB (100 ISO) to +36dB (25,600 ISO) and is therefore optimized to reduce noise in images, while maintaining the full dynamic range of the sensor. The primary native ISO is 400, which is ideal for use under studio lighting. The secondary high base ISO of 3200 is perfect for shooting in dimly lit environments. Gain can be adjusted via the camera's HDMI menu or remotely from a switcher using the camera's SDI/HDMI remote control.
Cinematic images in live production
The amazing 4K sensor combined with Blackmagic generation 5 color science gives you the same imaging technology used in digital film cameras. This means that you can now use film footage for live production. Moreover, in combination with DaVinci Resolve's built-in primary color corrector, you get much better images than with simple broadcast cameras. The color corrector can even be controlled from the switcher. With 13 stops of dynamic range, the camera has darker blacks and brighter whites, perfect for color correction. The sensor has a resolution of 4096 x 2160, which is great for both HD and Ultra HD work. Moreover, Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera supports 4K G2 from 23.98 fps to 60 fps.
Affordable photographic lenses
Thanks to the popular MFT lens mount, Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera is compatible with a wide range of affordable photographic lenses from Olympus, Panasonic, Sigma and more. Photographic lenses are of incredible quality because they are designed for use in high-resolution photography. In addition, the active lens mount allows you to adjust the lens remotely. This allows you to adjust cameras mounted high in hard-to-reach places without having to be physically there. Moreover, with the optional focus and zoom remotes you can adjust the lens just as you would with a large studio camera. This means that you can adjust important lens settings such as focus, zoom and iris just as you would with an expensive B4 broadcast lens.
Built-in tally
Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K features a tally that glows red for broadcast, green for preview and orange for ISO recording. This makes it easy for talent to present with confidence, as they can see at a glance which camera is current. You get full support for the SDI and HDMI tally protocol from switchers such as ATEM Television Studio, ATEM Constellation and ATEM Mini. Because the tally is sent to the camera via the SDI and HDMI connections, no complex cabling is required.
Professional connections
Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K G2 has 12G-SDI that supports video, tally and camera return, which makes installation fast. It includes an HDMI-A connector for local monitoring, so you can connect a monitor such as a Blackmagic Video Assist to change settings via the menu overlay or check the position of an external camera. There's also a USB-C expansion port for recording to external drives or controlling the camera via zoom and focus remotes. You can even connect a USB-C to Ethernet adapter to control the camera over a network via REST APIs. Additionally, there is a 3.5mm port for connecting a microphone.
Two ways to connect
Blackmagic Micro Studio cameras feature HDMI output, making them perfect for HDMI switchers such as ATEM Mini. The HDMI supports video, tally, control and recording trigger for a broadcast style workflow using a single HDMI cable. They also have 12G-SDI, so you can connect to SDI-based switchers like the ATEM Constellation. There is a 12G-SDI connection for camera video and one for program return. The return program also includes tally, talkback and remote camera control.
Built-in microphones
The Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera contains built-in microphones, so you don't have to waste time connecting external microphones. Each microphone is placed in the optimal position, meaning you get better stereo separation than is possible on a regular video camera. There's also a 3.5mm audio input so you can connect microphones if you want to use larger, more directional microphones with wind protection. Whether you use the built-in microphones or connect an external microphone, the audio is embedded in the SDI and HDMI video outputs, so you get perfect audio and video sync.
USB-C for external drives and Ethernet control
Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K features a high-speed USB-C expansion port that lets you record to external drives, control the camera over a network, or connect a wide range of accessories. Connect an external USB drive and the camera can record high-quality 12-bit Blackmagic RAW files for later editing and color correction. That means you can just move the drive to a computer to work and not have to waste time copying files. Or add a USB-C to Ethernet adapter to control your camera over a network via easy-to-use REST APIs. Plus, add optional focus and zoom requirements for full lens control, just like a large studio camera.
Blackmagic RAW quality
Blackmagic RAW is a revolutionary new format designed to capture and preserve the quality of camera sensor data. Some file formats, such as H.264, are highly compressed, which adds noise and artifacts, causing sensor details to be lost forever. Blackmagic RAW eliminates this problem, so you get stunning images with incredible detail and rich colors throughout the post-production pipeline. Blackmagic RAW also saves camera settings as metadata, so you can later change ISO, white balance and exposure in DaVinci Resolve. Plus, the files are small and fast, so the editing speed is incredible. Only Blackmagic RAW gives you the highest quality, the smallest files and the fastest performance.
Blackmagic operating system
Blackmagic OS is a truly modern operating system where all camera functions work independently for smoother operation, and the camera turns on almost instantly. The menus are overlaid on the HDMI video output. The menu is controlled by the row of buttons on the front of the camera, so it's always accessible, even when mounted in tight locations. You also get full control over advanced camera features such as on-screen focus and exposure tools, 3D LUTs, HDR, metadata entry, timecode, Blackmagic RAW settings and more.
Battery backup power
The Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera G2 has many different power options. It includes a regular 12 VDC locking power connector so the cable cannot be accidentally pulled out. In addition, the camera comes with a power supply with five different wall socket adapters for different countries. The camera also supports a standard LP-E6 compatible battery, so you can add a battery for local power backup during critical live broadcasts. These batteries are easily available all over the world and are kept trickle charged by the camera. You can even use an adapter to connect the camera to V-mount batteries so you can enjoy all-day power.
Menu in 13 popular languages
Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K is designed for worldwide use and supports 13 popular languages. When setting up your camera, you can choose to work in English, German, French, Spanish, Polish, Portuguese, Italian, Russian, Turkish, Ukrainian, Chinese, Japanese or Korean. It is easy to switch to another language by simply going to the menu settings. When you switch languages, all screen overlays, heads-up display and settings menus are displayed in the selected language and you can switch languages at any time.
