Tilta Nucleus Nano II

Tilta's Nucleus-Nano II FIZ Wireless Lens Control System is a focus, iris and zoom control system designed for both freelance cinematographers and experienced DPs, whether they use a handheld or gimbal-mounted rig. The basic configuration of the system consists of a hand controller with an improved touchscreen display and a lens motor with five times the torque of its predecessor. USB-C connectivity, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connect the units together and provide control compatibility with select camera systems.

Handwheel control with touchscreen

View your wireless channel, Wi-Fi status, battery life, Bluetooth connectivity and standby status on the outer portion of the controller's 1.6" touchscreen. The FIZ parameters and A/B stop are on the center section, with the option to lock the screen or switch between auto and manual focus. Two other menus can be accessed from the main screen to lock and adjust the settings of your (suitable) connected camera, and to view the current lens parameters Additional settings accessible through the interface include linking and opening manual controls for the separately sold motor and additional adjustments for the hand unit.

FIZ lens control motor

The motor drive is positioned at an offset to the main gear to prevent the motor from pushing away from the lens during use. A 0.8 MOD gear ensures compatibility with most cinema-standard lenses, while an included lens adapter ring extends this compatibility to DSLR and mirrorless camera lenses. Two USB-C ports on the motor - one I/O and one input - power the motor and can pass power to multiple motors to control FIZ from a single source.

USB-C ports and power supply

The USB-C port on the hand unit can be used to enable wired connections to compatible cameras. It can also charge the internal battery when it is empty and allows firmware updates when not updated via Wi-Fi. The Nano II can also be powered via the contact points on the back of the device that are compatible with select Tilta power accessories. Use professional batteries, power banks or separately sold Tilta power handles to power the motor via the USB-C input. The entire system can operate for up to 20 hours.

Intuitive connection and configuration

Select a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi channel and pair your hand unit with the lens motor via a wireless connection. Press the pairing button on the motor to establish the connection and cycle through the available modes: iris control, zoom control or focus control. Different colors indicate which mode you are in: green for iris, blue for zoom, purple for focus and yellow for unassigned. Press and hold the button to automatically calibrate the motor.

Controls on the hand control unit

- The run/stop button turns the hand unit on and sends run/stop commands to your connected camera via USB-C and Wi-Fi.

- The zoom switch can be set to adjust the zoom, focus or iris of your lens via the Bluetooth motor connection.

- The function button calibrates your motors and sets A/B stops.

- Use the TF/DF switch to continuously rotate the wheel or set stops in both directions. TF mode is preferred when used with the Nucleus engine, while DF mode works best with the DJI Focus engine. By turning the wheel you adjust the sensitivity of the FIZ.

Compatibility

The Nano II is backwards compatible with the previous generation Nucleus-Nano and the Nucleus-M lens motor for easy integration with your existing equipment. Cameras such as the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro, Sony FX3 and Canon EOS R6 Mark II can be controlled wirelessly via the hand unit interface. Mount and integrate the system with your DJI RS 2 or RS 3 Pro gimbal with the included 15mm rod.

PLEASE NOTE: Some of the above features are NOT fully functional in the current firmware.

Features such as DJI Ronin/DJI Focus Motor Compatibility, Lens Mapping and other features are currently unavailable and will be implemented with future firmware updates.

Camera control functionality is only compatible with select cameras at this time.
