Black Magic Cloud Pod
Blackmagic Cloud Pod will transform your work. It's perfect for film and television as you can record to USB-C flash drives and then use the Blackmagic Cloud Pod to make the drive available on the network for use by multiple editors and colorists. Depending on the brand of USB-C flash disk used, it can even handle huge 12K Blackmagic RAW files. USB-C flash drives are great because they're affordable, have no search times, and you can buy them at any electronics store.
Blackmagic Cloud Pod has an extremely small and slim design as it has no internal storage. It is also very quiet and very portable. It features two USB-C ports, so it can host two separate USB drives on their network at the same time. Thanks to the 10G Ethernet port, you get extremely high performance. There is also an HDMI monitor output so you can view a live graphical representation of the storage on a TV or monitor.
With a separate, very fast 10G Ethernet connection, Blackmagic Cloud Pod is very fast. The internal processing is designed to load the 10G Ethernet port to its theoretical maximum speed, so you get the full performance of the ultra-fast USB-C drives available today. When using flash USB-C drives, access has very low latency, so responsiveness is fast. Even when editing large 12K RAW digital movie files. It is so fast that multi-camera editing is very smooth, even when used with large digital movie camera files.
Now you can set up a local cache of your Dropbox files. This makes work much faster as files are readily available without having to be downloaded from the internet. You can save space on your computer by moving cached Dropbox files to the Blackmagic Cloud Pod for everyone on your network to share. You can even sync multiple Blackmagic Cloud Pods or Cloud Stores through Dropbox, allowing people in different geographic locations to collaborate without delay because everyone has a local copy of the files.
The most exciting feature is the HDMI monitor output. Simply connect a TV or computer monitor to get a live status of the Blackmagic Cloud Pod. The storage card shows a graphical representation of the memory core and real-time read and write access for the connected users. There are also graphs that show you the data transfers on the Ethernet connection. The main storage indicator shows you the capacity of the two USB-C drives and how much is currently being used. The status for each Dropbox connection is also displayed.
The Blackmagic Cloud Pod has a fast 10G Ethernet port, which can only be found on expensive workstation computers. With 10G Ethernet, you get 10 times the speed of normal Ethernet. In addition, most computers can be upgraded to add 10G Ethernet. Even when connected to an Ethernet switch with dozens of users accessing files simultaneously. The Ethernet also has very low latency for fast access times. That's comparable performance to expensive business SANs, but in a low-cost design that you can install yourself.
One of the great advantages of the Blackmagic Cloud Pod is that it is private storage that you can fully control. There are no subscriptions to sign up for. There are no monthly license fees. There is no tracking of your usage or data. You don't even need to log into a web page to keep the storage settings as Blackmagic Cloud Pod uses a free downloadable software utility that runs on Mac and Windows. That means you can use a private network, completely disconnected from the internet. This is critical to many security standards where computer networks cannot be connected to the external Internet.
When you need to change settings, you can use the Blackmagic Cloud Pod utility available on Mac and Windows. In many ways it can be connected in the same way as a regular hard drive. That means it's so easy to set up, you don't need an IT person to get started. However, if you want to customize your network, the utility software allows you to change the network settings in the Cloud Pod. The tool also allows you to add Dropbox sync folders.
