Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2
A demo model of this camera is available. Contact us for the possibilities.
The new Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2 is an incredibly powerful camera designed for both traditional and online broadcasters. The 3 cameras in 1 design allows it to be used as a 4K production camera, a 4K studio camera or a 6K digital film camera! It's a perfect solution for broadcasters because it uses the lenses and batteries you already have! You can record to regular SD cards, UHS-II cards, CFast 2.0 cards or external USB drives in formats such as H.265, ProRes and Blackmagic RAW. This means it is compatible with all video software. You can even change the lens mount! No other broadcast camera is so flexible!
Exceptional low-light performance
The new URSA Broadcast offers incredible low-light performance, so you can shoot with only ambient light or even moonlight! In advanced cameras, ISO is a measure of the light sensitivity of the image sensor. The Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2 offers a gain of -12dB (100 ISO) to +36dB (25,600 ISO), so it is optimized to reduce noise in images while preserving the full dynamic range of the sensor. The primary native ISO is 400, which is ideal for use under studio lighting. Then the secondary high ISO of 3200 is perfect when shooting in dimly lit environments. The gain can be set via a switch on the body, the LCD menu or remotely using the SDI remote camera control protocol.
Digital movie quality in a broadcast camera
The large 6K sensor combined with Blackmagic generation 5 color science gives you the same technology used in digital film cameras. This means broadcasters can now use digital cinema quality in broadcasts! The 6K sensor has a resolution of 6144 x 3456, so it's flexible enough for broadcasting and digital film work. When using B4 lenses, you use a 4K output of the sensor for Ultra HD broadcasts. If you then switch to a PL or EF lens mount, you can use the full 6K resolution of the sensor for digital film! With 13 stops of dynamic range you get darker blacks and brighter whites, so perfect for color correction. The use of “digital film” in television broadcasting is revolutionizing picture quality!
USB-C for recording to external discs
The Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2 has a high-speed USB-C port on the back of the camera that allows you to record to external drives or connect to a wide variety of accessories. By connecting an external USB flash disk, you can record high-quality ProRes, H.265 or even 12-bit Blackmagic RAW files for post-processing and color correction. That means you can just take the drive to a computer to work, and you don't have to waste time copying files. Plus, the USB port powers the drive that's plugged in! You can even connect optional focus and zoom remotes to control the lens.
Use 3D LUTs to create movie looks!
Digital film cameras film in a logarithmic color space to preserve dynamic range, which is great for post-production. However, when viewed on a monitor, these files can appear flat and gray. 3D LUTs solve this problem as they allow you to apply a "look" to the monitor, giving you a good idea of what the finished images will look like. LUTs can be applied temporarily for monitoring only, or they can be included in the Blackmagic RAW files for use in post production. The URSA Broadcast G2 works with industry standard 17 and 33 point 3D LUT files, or you can work with the built-in LUTs such as Extended Video, Film to Video, Film to Rec.2020 and more.
Professional audio connections and built-in microphones
URSA Broadcast G2 has a high-quality built-in microphone and a professional audio recorder, so you don't have to carry any extra audio equipment! That means you can use the built-in stereo microphone or connect external microphones. The XLR connections have 48V phantom power, so you can plug in everything from shotguns to wireless clip-on microphones. You can also choose to link audio inputs on the camera so that you can record mono signal on both channels. URSA Broadcast G2 also features physical knobs to adjust audio levels and displays meters on the LCD so you can trim audio levels even when the camera is shoulder-mounted.
Camera Control via SDI
All Blackmagic Design ATEM switchers can control cameras via a protocol embedded in the URSA Broadcast G2's SDI video connections. Connecting is easy because all ATEM switchers send the protocol via the SDI program output from the switcher to the camera via the SDI program input. The switcher has control over color correction, tally and the lens. All you have to do is set the correct camera number and it works immediately. This means that someone can manage the color settings and gain, so the cameraman can focus on framing the images.
Wireless Bluetooth Camera Control
If you place the camera on a crane, or in another hard-to-reach location, you can get full control via Bluetooth from up to 10 meters away. You can download the Blackmagic Camera Control app for your iPad or use third-party apps such as Bluetooth+ or tRigger on your iOS and Android devices. There's even a free developer SDK with sample code available on the Blackmagic Design developer website so you can create your own remote camera control and digital slate solutions! Imagine building an app that can make all cameras record at the same time. The possibilities are endless!
